What You Need To Know About The Apron In Masonry

An apron is the first symbol that a Mason encounters in Masonry, as it is the first gift they receive. It symbolizes “an emblem of innocence and the badge of a Mason.” In the initial days, craftsmen wore an apron that was made from an animal’s skin to protect the workmen and their clothes from damage and injuries from rough stones they used. Aprons also included vessels to carry tools.  With time, they became smaller and were made using white lambskin. The reason is lambs were recognized as symbols of innocence, and white likewise is universally accepted as the color of innocence.
