What Are The Requirements To Join a Masonic Lodge

Tradition, morality, self-improvement, fellowship, fraternity, charity and leadership: these are only a few of the qualities that you will imbibe as a member of a Masonic lodge. If you wish to become a mason and spent a better part of your time searching for “Masonic lodge near me” on the internet, you should know that there are certain requirements for joining a lodge. Here they are:
  1. You must be a male.
  2. You must be of lawful age, which can be anywhere between 18 to 25.
  3. You must be a believer of a Supreme Being.
  4. You must be of good character.
  5. You must not be coerced into joining. The decision should be based on your own free will.
  6. You must be free-born. While the term free-born alludes to the days of slavery, here it means that you must be your own master. You must not be bound to another in any way. The term may have lost its meaning but it has been retained as a part of the fraternity’s heritage.
  7. You must have at least two recommendations from masons at the lodge you are applying to be a member of.
Can people from all religions become a mason?

As long as you fulfill all of the qualifications mentioned above, you are eligible to be a mason. It doesn’t matter what religion, race or class you belong. What matters is your belief in a Supreme Being. This also means that an atheist cannot, knowingly, become a mason.

In addition to these mandatory qualifications, you must be uninfluenced by ulterior motives. You should not join the lodge if you plan on using your membership for your own selfish benefits. You must also be eager to learn and be of service to mankind.

The qualifications to be admitted into a Masonic lodge vary from one lodge to another, but these are the basics that are common to all.
